WORKSHOP SEGMENT (12-2 PM)
Learn the muscles and unique functions of the four quadrants of the hips. Apply this knowledge in creating intelligent and effective hip opening sequences for yourself or your students.
Each of the hip quadrants have specific functions for moving and stabilizing the body. Asana practices can be limited and low back pain is often due to tightness in the hips. In this workshop each quadrant of the hip will be isolated and presented with power point images and asana practices to help you learn the muscles and their attachment points to the skeleton. Handouts with the hip quadrants, muscles and asana practices will be given.
PRACTICE SEGMENT (2:15-3:30 PM)
A 75 minute asana practice that will focus on strengthening and opening each of the four hip quadrants. Information covered in the workshop during Session I will be applied in practice. Appropriate for all levels.
Workshop Content will Focus on:
Understanding the four hip quadrants and their functions
Bring more precision to body alignment in asana practices
Help teachers of Yoga offer more specific verbal cues to their students
Enable you to design intelligent and effective hip opening sequences
Identify which quadrant is less flexible customize your asana practice to better 'balance' the hips

"Follow your nature. The practice is really about uncovering your own pose; we have great respect for our teachers, but unless we can uncover our own pose in the moment, it's not practice — it's mimicry."
