Elk Mountain Ranch

April 24-272024 Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

“The body benefits from movement, and the mind benefits from stillness.”

~ Sakyong Mipham

Immerse yourself in the springtime beauty of the inland Pacific Northwest for a weekend of Yoga, meditation and Ayurveda. You will be surrounded with streams, vibrant green pastures, abundant wildflowers, fresh air and beautiful forests.

Each day you will be led through slow, carefully planned Yoga sequences, with the goal of easing tightness in the hips, strengthening core muscles, improving postural alignment, slowing down the breath, calming the mind. Each full day of the retreat will begin with a three-hour morning workshop that will include discussion, meditation and Yoga. Workshop content is designed to help you recognize and overcome common obstacles encountered during meditation and Yoga practices. All levels of practice will be considered in planning. Props such as blocks, chairs, blankets and straps will be available for use and will incorporated in each practice session. In addition to the two morning workshops, we will have late afternoon and evening, candlelit, gentle and restorative Yoga sessions.

Learn about the doshas and determine your own personal dosha ratio. We will have discussions on Auryvedic cooking, daily routines, yoga asana and breathing techniques for each dosha. Particular attention will be paid to the three gunas and Ayurvedic routines for the Spring season.

“The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts, it’s to stop letting them control you.”

This magnificent property is on a 150 acre ranch located 15 minutes east of Coeur d' Alene in Northern Idaho. The 4000 sf house is a spacious, comfortable home built with love by the owners. The heart of the home is the original 1908 homestead cabin, whose original deed was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt.

The unique setting of this home is at the confluence of two streams and surrounded by pristine natural beauty to stir your heart. Like a painting come to life with romantic rock bridges, quaint stone steps and walls, lush pastures, fruit trees, flowers and two jade-green ponds filled with trout that guests are encouraged to feed with food provided. This enchanting home is surrounded on three sides by 2.5 million acres of U.S. Forest land extending into Montana and Canada. The property has been maintained as a wildlife preserve with deer, elk, moose, bear, wolves, bald eagles and wild turkeys visiting the ranch.  There are no visible neighbors.

Travel expenses are not included in registration costs.

The nearest major airport is in Spokane, Washington; it is a 45 minute drive to Coeur d' Alene from the Spokane airport.

The Missoula, Montana airport is a 2.5 hour drive to Coeur d' Alene. Ride sharing may be able to be arranged with other participants.

Each participant will receive a map with detailed driving and arrival instructions before the retreat.

Six bedrooms are dispersed on both the ground and the second floors with comfortable beds, plenty of space and privacy each upstairs room has a private stair case to the room. The two large main floor bathrooms are located at the front and rear of the home. A well stocked laundry room is available for use. Bathrooms have hairdryers.

Wifi is available throughout the house, but cell phone signals are 'spotty' at best. There is a land line for local (208) calls and emergencies. What'sApp works well for phone calls outside of the local area code.

Wholesome, vegetarian/vegan meals will be prepared for you. All meals prepared by an in-house cook (Barbara RK), will be cooked the Ayurvedic traditions and made with fresh, local and organic ingredients when possible. Guests' special dietary needs can be accommodated (gluten free, vegan, allergies).

Afternoons are left open to relax or explore. You can stay at the ranch or explore the Coeur d'Alene area.  Downtown Coeur d' Alene and Lake Coeur d' Alene are a 15 minute drive from the ranch. Bicycles, kayaks and paddle boards can be rented near the lake. An abundance of hiking and biking trails are in and around Coeur d'Alene. A welcome packet with trails, maps and town information upon arrival may help plan your free time.
