Location: Anzio, Lazio Region, Italy

Sept 17-22, 2019

"That it will never come again is what makes life sweet."

Emily Dickinson

Join us on this unique Yoga retreat in Anzio, Lazio, Italy. Anzio is a quiet, medium-sized fishing port on the coast of Lazio, about 51 kilometers (32 mi) southwest of Rome. Anzio is a perfect place to slow down, let go of your worries, relax on the beach and maybe explore some Roman and World War II history.  This ancient town, rich with history, was an important Roman port and the birthplace of Emperor Nero, but now it is best known for its military significance as a landing spot for the Allies in the Second World War. In January1944 British and US forces made a landing on the beaches of Anzio, liberating Rome from German occupation.

While in Anzio we will be staying at a family owned bed and breakfast complete with an on site Yoga studio. Each day will begin with a light, self-serve breakfast before two and a half hours of Yoga, discussion and meditation. Lunch will be served after morning Yoga. Afternoons are free for you to rest, explore Anzio or relax by the pool. We will reconvene for dinner at 6:30 PM followed by relaxing Yoga nidra meditation or a meditative gong session before retiring for the evening.

Optional Activities

  • An afternoon of sailing around the Tyrrhenian Sea

  • A homemade pasta making lesson on the rooftop kitchen

Please let us know if you are interested in participating in sailing or the pasta cooking lesson upon registration.

Tish Hegel, BS, E-RYT, ACSM CPT

With a practice of yoga that began in 1987, Tish has developed a knowledge of Yoga that as evolved and deepened throughout many life stages. She has had to modify and apply her Yoga practice through child bearing, rehabilitation following various injuries resulting from an auto accident, and management of the chronic back pain. These life experiences, along with the experience of gaining and loosing excess body weight, have enabled Tish to empathize with many challenges to and approaches toward the  practice of Yoga. Tish draws from these experiences, along with her knowledge of body mechanics learned while earning her BS degree in Kinesiology from Arizona State University.  Her enthusiastic and passionate approach to Yoga is conveyed through constant encouragement of her students and her efforts to make a Yoga practice accessible to anyone who is eager to improve their mobility, functional capacity and ultimately their quality of life.

Shaila Parthasarathi, MBA, RYT 500

Inspired by her first Iyengar teacher in London more than twenty years ago, in 2010 Shaila completed the Occupational Certificate of Instruction and 500 hour RYT in Scottsdale.  Yoga has helped Shaila in building strength and finding flexibility to develop a healthy posture and continues to cultivate the focused and relaxed state of mind she seeks.  She places strong emphasis on alignment, using props to refine poses and enjoy the therapeutic aspects of the practice. She loves working with people of all ages who are new to yoga and those wanting to deepen their practice. Shaila has inherited a passion for food so, at home, you’ll find her improvising recipes with gusto. She thanks her many teachers, including Ursula Schoonraad, (the late) Lilian Biggs, Revital Prisler, Carlyn Sikes and Tish Hegel, and dedicates her practice to her very first teacher, J N Parthasarathi.
