What makes this class the 'Ultimate' Restorative Yoga class?
Restorative Yoga has two intentions, it is meant to restore the natural curves of the spine, with gentle stretches of the back and hips, and to restore the balance of the nervous system by activating the 'relaxation response' in the body.
In this class we will be using props, such as sand bags, bolsters, blankets, blocks and chairs, to fully support your body and ensure a safe and proper body alignment in the postures. During the restorative posture segment of class, heated rice bags will be placed on the neck and low back, aiding the release of tension in these areas. Sandbags are used to depress the shoulders and hips, the weight of the sand encourages muscle relaxation while holding the postures. Soothing sounds from sound-bath instruments such as Koshi chimes, rain-stick, and a crystal pyramid, will be sprinkled throughout the sequence. Class will conclude with a deeply relaxing session of Yoga Nidra 'rotation of consciousness' meditation, and the guided meditation, "Meeting Your Soul" by P'taah.
What to Expect in Class:
-
During the first 30-minutes of class, you will be moving through postures to gently open the neck, shoulders and hips. Props used during this segment will be chairs and blocks. Postures will be held 1-2 minutes.
-
Following the opening segment, we will spend 60 minutes in traditional restorative Yoga postures. Bolsters, blocks, sandbags, and blankets will be used as props to support the body and provide a foundation for you to rest upon. Restorative postures will be held 2-8 minutes.
-
The final 30-minutes of class will be spent in stillness, as you let go, and allow the guided meditation to relax the body and mind.
