Learn to distinguish between the motions and functions of the shoulder girdle and the shoulder joint. Understanding the functional differences between the girdle and the joint of the shoulder will help you to practice asana more effectively, safely and with less discomfort in the neck and shoulders. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of students and teachers of Yoga.

Attend one or both sessions of the event.
Session I is the workshop/lecture, session II is the asana practice.

THIS WORKSHOP WILL COVER:
-
Specific function and movements of the shoulder girdle VS the function and movements of the shoulder joint.
-
How to relieve neck, shoulder and upper back pain by learning to use the shoulder girdle more effectively.
-
How to find greater stability (and comfort) in Yoga postures (asanas) that require lifting of the arms (almost all of them!) or the body weight to be supported by the arms (i.e. downward facing dog, upward facing dog, chaturanga dandasana and all arm balances).
-
How to prevent injury of the shoulder during asana practice.
